I think people need to be more comfortable with illegalism and I’m not kidding. Of course the more legal something is, the safer and easier it is to do, but the more people who disregard the law, the harder it is to enforce. There are plenty of laws on the books that people just ignore and are never or rarely policed.

Becoming more comfortable with little illegal activities makes you more comfortable with bigger more important illegal activities. Additionally, it is crucial to build a wall of silence. Nobody talks everybody walks.

People who give out food without a permit, hold a march without a permit, grow a garden without a permit, are more likely to be people you could turn to to work with on preventing an eviction, or keeping people out of cop hands, or helping your friend Jane get crucial healthcare when it’s not legal in your state.

Communities comfortable with these acts won’t call the cops, and then nobody knows that it’s happening.

People have got to shift from both the idea that lawful = good/ illegal = bad, and that the illegality of something means that’s the end of it, and the only fight left is to make it legal again.

yup i don't know if illegalism is really a word but the point still stands

Every time AO3 makes an update, there’s a chorus of ‘and can we please please please be able to leave kudos on each chapter pleeeeease?!?!’

In theory, this is a nice idea. We’ve all smashed the kudos button on our favourite fics, bemoaning the fact we can’t give them all the love.

But ya’ll, kudos per chapter would absolutely fucking suck.

For readers, it would suck because it would compound the existing problem of making it hard to find fics that are good and not just long - not that a fic can’t be both! But there are plenty of Pulitzer-worthy one-shots out there that are buried way way down the list when ranked by number of kudos, because they’re beneath a bunch of 50/? fics where the author lost sight of where the hell the story was going 30 chapters ago, but their fic has had 50x the chances to be viewed so has more kudos. It would encourage authors to release their fics in lots of little chapters instead of a few longer ones/one-shots as they might otherwise have done (and as might otherwise suit the story).

And for authors it would especially suck, as it would compound the existing problem of people not commenting. Kudos are very much appreciated, but comments make an author’s day; but so few people bother, and frankly, it’s disheartening. Let people just click a button to show their appreciation for each new chapter? The hits:kudos:comments ratio would get even worse than it already is.

You can already ‘give kudos’ for each chapter of a fic on AO3 - by commenting. Hell you can literally write ‘kudos!’ It will make the author smile, I promise.

I actually never thought about it like this. If you are a fic writer or reader you should definitely read this 👆

YUP and like i appreciate that you want to give multiple kudos on my one-shots too! but when you comment to say that that achieves the exact same purpose ao3 writing

no offense but i need everyone to stop saying that “we survived” bad presidents before. like, i get it, the country has weathered people like andrew jackson and ronald reagan and will probably weather trump. but when you say “we survived” andrew jackson? tell that to the 4000 (of 16000) cherokee who died on the trail of tears. “we survived” ronald reagan? tell that to the 650,000 americans who have died of aids– a national health crisis which reagan refused to even recognize?

you know who “survived” presidents like trump? people who never had to be afraid of them in the first place.

If you’ve ever read about atrocities in our past and thought to yourself, “Well, if I had been around then, I wouldn’t have done that—I would have fought back!  I would have helped the people being persecuted!”, well.

Now’s your fucking chance.

yup i'm in a relatively good place after the election white and middle class and in a blue state which means i've got some responsibilities right now planned parenthood's getting a donation from me today and i've got two white sons to raise who luckily have a white father who is as despondent and anxiety ridden as me right now but yeah i'm scared out of my mind for so many people i love and sitting idly by just can't be my path

Star Trek + Social Commentary (context in the captions)

ancamnarvienn

THIS is what the original Star Trek TV series and films were about. Not just about blowing up things in space and snazzy lens flares with a side order of casual sexism -.-‘.

dude do you know how many people I have pissed off by saying the exact same thing?

Not enough people.

yup star trek i might have reblogged this before
