PSA on sign-up problems
We’re checking in on the sign-ups we have so far, and we’re already seeing a few problems, so here’s a short reminder for the tl;dr fans:
- autofill bug: not all nominated characters show up in the drop downs, when offering/requesting check your fandoms’ character lists in the tag set;
- Optional Details are Optional, but requesting Character A and Character B, and then using the Optional Details to say, ‘I actually only care about Character C’ — not cool;
- the ‘Optional’ field in the offers section is only used for bucket lists, it’s not the place to offer unnominated characters or freeform tags.
Please edit it.
Useful reminders! Also if you haven’t yet, sign up here! (Signups close Sunday Oct 26 at 6pm UTC — check your timezone! That’s 2pm Sunday Eastern US time since I just checked for myself haha.)

After two days, we broke 800 sign-ups! Some more stats:
- 1786 different fandoms requested so far (out of 3094 that were nominated);
- most requested fandoms: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (28), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (27), Sleepy Hollow (TV) (24), Orphan Black (22);
- most lopsided requests/offers ratio: Discworld: Ankh-Morpork Novels and Little Red Riding Hood (Fairy Tale), both 1:15.
I wrote my Yuletide letter! Fandoms: The Raven Cycle (Adam, Ronan); Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Amy, Jake); Friday Night Lights (Tim, Julie); and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Dennis, Sweet Dee).
You can link your own letter here. I think sign-ups open Sunday. Or maybe Monday?
all my yuletide nominations have been approved, so time to start crafting my brooklyn nine-nine, raven cycle, and friday night lights prompts. i think i want to do four requests this year, just deciding on the last one. \o/
Yuletide 2014 - I guess I need a tag for that
I did my Yuletide nominations on the first day, which I think is the first time that’s ever happened. And then I didn’t update anywhere saying I made them, which is definitely the first time that’s ever happened! I suppose it’s easier when you can only nominate three fandoms and four characters in each fandom. So much compartmentilization that you have to make some decisions.
I nominated:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Jake, Amy, Holt, Terry (Rosa and Gina have also been nominated by someone who’s not me)
Raven Cycle - Maggie Stiefvater - Blue, Gansey, Adam, Ronan
Friday Night Lights - Coach, Mrs. Coach, Julie, Tim (and someone else nominated Landry, Tyra, Matt Saracen, and Jason Street, which made me super duper happy)
Does anyone who follows me not know what Yuletide is? Well, I guess just in case anyone’s dying of curiosity, it’s a multifandom fic fest with reveals on Christmas day. It’s ostensibly for small fandoms, but it really works out to be for small, medium, and all new fandoms in practice. If a fandom has fewer than 1000 fics of over 1000 words, complete, and in English on archiveofourown.org (AO3) and fanfiction.net combined, then it qualifies for Yuletide.
Fics just have to adhere to the recipient’s requested fandom and characters and be over 1000 words, and you get to pick which fandoms/characters you’re willing to write. Easy peasy! Plus, you get a fic of your own right back! Anyone with an AO3 account can play, and anyone can get an AO3 account, so really anyone can play.
Full list of rules are here, though don’t be intimidated by them unless you have a borderline fandom. I don’t really pay much attention to them.
Important dates are here.
Nominations can be done here.
You can see a good chunk of the nominations that have been made already here, and you can add to that sheet yourself here after you’ve made your nominations. The post about that sheet is here.
That’s a lot of links. Just follow Yuletide’s official tumblr instead.
If you have any questions, my ask box is open, but I’m not a mod or anything, just someone who’s participated in it for so many years that I’m not even sure how many it’s been. I think this might be my eleventh time????? DDDDD:
I have nominated Kings for Yuletide.
We’ve seen a couple of people say they’ve made their nominations for Yuletide. That’s not possible, as nominations won’t start until tomorrow. Please come back and nominate properly on AO3 when nominations open - we’d hate for you to miss out on your preferred fandoms.
OK! What are the comments on the main posts for, or just to drum up support for our fandoms?
It’s a place for participants to coordinate their nominations (see if there’s interest in their fandoms from other people; offer their character slots if they don’t need all of them in a fandom they’re nominating; for less clearly delineated fandoms, like RPF, it’s also to talk about what name to nominate under).
As a reminder anything that goes on at yuletide.livejoural.com is not official — the official announcement go on yuletide_admin.livejournal.com and yuletide_admin.dreamwidth.org.
New admin post - Eligibility Rules
The rules for this year have been finalised and are now available on our Livejournal and Dreamwidth accounts.
We know it’s a long post, but we wanted to try and ensure that all the different sorts of fandoms are covered and that the rules are clear. We have tried to take all your feedback into account. We hope that, in most cases, we have been successful.
These rules are no longer up for debate.
As a viewer [of The Office], I wondered what was the status of your relationship [with Mindy Kaling] off-camera? You had such great chemistry; it just seemed so realistic.
important questions
if my optional details on all my yuletide requests were just “robot AU”, do you think that would be okay
anyone else already trying to figure out their yuletide nominations
I made some Yuletide recs yesterday in 17 different fandoms, so in case any of you are bored, enjoy!
