Over 300,000 children are murdered inside Planned Parenthood clinics every year. http://ift.tt/ITL4iD

persephoneholly

BULL FUCKING SHIT.

My mother was three months pregnant with me when she waltzed into Planned Parenthood. But she didn’t get an abortion. Not because she had a ‘sudden change of heart’ nor because someone ‘lead her Jesus’ but because she went there to make sure I was and would be born healthy.

My parents were two poor young adults in their late teens and early twenties when I was conceived. They lived in a tiny apartment and had no insurance, but they wanted me. My mom drove herself to Planned Parenthood from the third month of pregnancy to the fifth (until she finally got medical insurance.) There she got the ultrasound screenings, found out I was a girl, got the prenatal vitamins and were referred to see the physician I’ve been going to from my birth to now.

Thanks to Planned Parenthood, I was born healthy at six pounds, seven ounces. I had no malformations, no preventable disorders and no preventable health issues. The only thing that occurred was I was in ‘fetal distress’ and was born a week before the due date.

I ‘made it out alive’ and thanks to Planned Parenthood I ‘made it out’ healthy.

Take this bullshit elsewhere.

TL;DR?: Read the bold.

Re blogging for the bolded text. The op is peddling junk science and fundamentalist misconceptions.

Planned Parenthood helps pregnant people in whatever capacity they need. They’re one of the only places in America where you can get completely free prenatal care if you need it. They also prevent hundreds of thousands of abortions by providing free or low-cost birth control to people who couldn’t afford it otherwise. Groups like Personhood USA are hell-bent on closing them down because pro-lifers give no actual shits about living, breathing human beings.

(Also, that image depicts a fetus that’s very far along. 88% of abortions take place in the first trimester. SURPRISE pro-lifers are manipulative!!!)

fucking hell. Not only are they services not restricted to just women, THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS. What the fuck are they on about? Like, how is Fox News allowed? IT’S RIDICULOUS

rabbleprochoice

Because providing vision care to children is obviously a feminist agenda and not, like, a general thing you should do for your child’s eye health.

The STAGGERING Study No One Talked About

vaginanews

A few weeks ago, the World Health Organization issued a report - the first of its kind - on  domestic violence wordwide.

The results are staggering.

Based on data from 1983 to 2010, 1 in 3 women on the planet has experienced intimate partner violence, and 40% of all women who are murdered are killed by a current or former intimate partner.

This has ramifications in all areas of women’s health - increased likelihood of sexually transmitted infections, depression and other mental illness, alcohol and drug addiction, unwanted pregnancy and abortion, and reproductive problems like low birth weight.

The report suggests the best opportunity to recognize and address domestic violence  is often in a health care setting - but heath care practitioners often lack the training required to see the signs, especially in the developing world.

Imagine a study that found 40% of all murdered men were killed by a current or former girlfriend. Even just a woman - any woman. Would have been a pretty huge story. We’d be having a big cultural conversation about what’s gone wrong and what we must do to fix it. But this? Nope.

Ask yourself why.

If you don’t hear much these days about the stereotypical gold digger who lies about being on the pill to ensnare a man into marriage or eighteen years of child support payments, that may be because doctors are now being told to look for just the opposite: The woman whose partner sabotages her birth control. She’s not so hard to find.

GREAT article. And I love that it’s on The Cut because then it will reach an audience of people who normally wouldn’t see this sort of thing.

"The birth rate among teenagers reached another historic low in 2012, government researchers announced Friday, and there is evidence that a switch to more effective means of birth control is a factor.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the birth rate among young women ages 15 to 19 fell 6 percent last year, to 29.4 births per thousand, the lowest rate in the 73 years the government has been collecting the data. The decline was across all racial and ethnic groups.”

So let’s stop banging that drum, okay? That means out of every 1000 births, less than 3% are born to teen mothers. And this includes 18 and 19 year olds, so it’s even less if you factor out legal adults.

I bet if you removed the south and other major abstinence only states that already small number would drop off a cliff.

Though I also think if you looked just at those states the number would be much more alarming. Especially among women in lower income levels.

nonnegative

The 2012 per state breakdowns aren’t available yet, but in 2010, Mississippi had the highest with 55/1000 births and New Hampshire had the lowest with a mere 16/1000 (again, this includes 18 and 19 year olds, and I’m not sure about economic breakdowns). So yes, higher in traditionally abstinence-only education states, but not a hugely bigger number and the article notes that Mississippi had a 21% drop. Not that we shouldn’t get rid of abstinence-only education, because WE 100% SHOULD IT’S SO STUPID, but I’d guess the internet has a big hand in keeping those numbers low.

My original point, which I’m sure is obvious, is that claiming teen moms are the end of humanity is the worst kind of misogynistic hyperbole.

It’s August 1, which means you can buy Plan B One-Step at drugstores without a prescription or an ID. Emergency contraception is more effective the sooner you take it, so we’re thrilled that it’s easier than ever to get your hands on it quickly. Check out this awesome Tumblr with user-submitted photos of buying Plan B.
