Wow. I’m glad that supergirl is getting some love, but that trailer really is just the Black Widow sketch from SNL. Like, yeah superheroes need to get more lighthearted, but is it really any coincidence that the girl is the one who doesn’t get to be dark and brooding?
okay but have you seen the flash or its promotion which is exactly the same tone or…? or how about the other two most recent superfamily tv properties: smallville and lois & clark. also tonally matched to what we see in the supergirl trailer pretty much exactly. (the superhero suit fashion show montage is almost pulled directly from the lois & clark pilot.)
and most importantly, the supergirl trailer fits the supergirl character. they don’t have to take a light, joyful character and make her dark and broody just so that she can be like ~the boys.
you want a dark and broody female superhero? me too; i want anything that increases parity in representation. so, demand that they make tv shows about actually dark and broody female superheroes. but don’t try to dismiss the superheroine we do have for being accurate to its source material.
and while you’re at it make sure not to sleep on aka jessica jones, the superheroine led crime drama, if you want a darker superheroine so bad.
