“I probably should get going,” Yamaguchi said, hours later. Tsukishima blinked blearily and rubbed his shoulder, still warm from where Yamaguchi had fallen asleep on it. “We both have work tomorrow.”
“This would be easier if we just lived together,” Tsukishima mumbled.
Yamaguchi went still. It wasn’t like he’d been moving much, but it was like the air stopped circulating, a heavy change in the atmosphere, the same way it did right before a thunderstorm. Only instead of them getting soaked by the rain, Tsukishima had put his foot in his mouth.
He stood up, a desperate noise rushing through his ears as his stomach lurched. “Yamaguchi, I —”
“I just always thought you wanted your space,” Yamaguchi interrupted. He stared at Tsukishima, suddenly awake.
“What?” said Tsukishima intelligently. Then, like a scholar: “Huh?”

Translator’s note - They made a Kagamimochi - Kagami mochi (鏡餅, “mirror rice cake”), is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration. It usually consists of two round mochi (rice cakes), the smaller placed atop the larger, and a daidai (a Japanese bitter orange) with an attached leaf on top.

Akiteru wonders if this job was worth giving up a life he’d settled into comfortably, with friends and a city that felt like home. He sighs as he traces idle lines into the condensation on his glass of beer, looking lazily around the bar just as the one unmitigated spot of joy in his new life walks in and takes off the hood that only half managed to protect him from the beating rain outside.
Tenma looks dishevelled, with some long dark strands plastered to his face and the shoulders of his hoodie several shades darker than the rest, but he still throws Akiteru a bright smile and a cute wave when he spots him in their booth.
