In fact, I fear I am a jack-of-all-trades. (Posts tagged for all we know karasuno has a class 6 7 8 9 and 10 who clearly aren't advanced classes)

I agree with the way you see Suna but I feel like he is kinda dumb considering he is in class 1 💀

I need to clear up a misconception. Haikyuu class numbers aren’t an indicator of intelligence. It’s not a sliding scale of 1 being least and 6 being most.

I know the misconception came about when it was revealed Karasuno’s class 4 and 5 are advanced classes. But we only know that’s the case for 1st years, so it’s unclear whether it’s the same for all years.

And in regards to other schools, we have no clue what they’re like. Dateko’s classes are named with letters instead of numbers, like A and B. It’s likely they study different areas of tech, like welding or electricity. Terushima is in class 7, but that only indicates that he could possibly go to a large school.

In real life Japan, some schools have different areas of study based on classes. I went to a place that had 2 classes of “arts and math” where they either chose arts path or math path in second year. Essentially “are you a math and science subjects person or a history and literature person”. One class focused on English and language learning. The other 2 were “information processing” which was basically accounting and IT/computer stuff, like Excel and SQL. Some of these are harder to get into, since you need to sit exams for high school entrance and acceptance rates vary with each course.

Some schools would definitely be harder to get into in the hqverse too, like Shiratorizawa. Kageyama mentions he failed the exam, and it’s hinted that they have a very high standard of academics. I’m not sure about their middle school division, but starting out in Shiratorizawa at high school level would require a lot of academic intelligence.

So we really don’t know how smart someone is, based off their class number alone. We can gather hints from the story, but that’s about it.

god yes it always bugs me when i see stuff like 'oh he's in class 7 he must be so smart!' lol why would you assume that from knowing ONE school's designation for ONE grade in TWO classes? for all we know karasuno has a class 6 7 8 9 and 10 who clearly aren't advanced classes haikyuu!! canon misconceptions
