WHAT IS THIS SORCERY.
lol but no really, ty, marly. there’s no way i would have seen anything from the lorax otherwise.
the first time I fell in love with Ian Somerhalder…. I kinda can’t believe still this was on a silly summer show on the WB.
So excited for Vampy D’s at Paley Fest tonight!
This storyline gave me all of the feels. I always loved that Hamilton went for it, even though he had no idea that Jake was a guy. Ah, gender. So irrelevant. Such a profound point to make on a short-lived teen program.
This is also where my Ian Somerhalder love began. So pretty, so dumb.
Inspirational Motivational of the Day: 18-year-old Jeremy Minnier is just your average high school senior except for the part where he’s the mayor of an entire town.
Minnier, the newly elected mayor of Aredale, Iowa, recently defeated 76-year-old incumbent Virgil Homer by a vote of 24 to 8.
If the vote tally seems rather small, that’s because Aredale only has 74 residents. But, as diminutive as the population figure might be, it still has some pretty big problems, and it’s now up to Minnier to fix them.
“One of the main things right now is our septic systems in our homes as they’re not up to state codes,” said Minnier, who plans to spruce up Main Street with some new signs and do a little landscaping in front of City Hall.
“Being the mayor doesn’t mean that you just sit back and tell other people what to do,” he says. “You gotta be there helping. I’m gonna be sweeping the streets out there with a broom and shovel just like they are.”
Aredale residents say they’re hopeful about the future with Mayor Minnier at the helm. “Some fresh blood may see things differently,” says town councilor Deb DeBerg.
Even his high school principal is behind Minnier all the way. “I’m hoping he inspires a lot of our kids to step up when they see something that they think they might be able to do,” said Principal Steve Madson.
Minnier himself isn’t too worried about balancing his dual identities: “It’s not a job when you wake up every morning and just love what you do.”
[msnbc / thanks aw!]
This is all well and good until he wants to build Icetown.
I don’t know what’s in Rush Limbaugh’s heart so I’m not going to comment on the sincerity of his apology. What I can comment on is the fact that all decent folks can agree that the remarks that were made don’t have any place in the public discourse. And, you know, the reason I called Ms. Fluke is because I thought about Malia and Sasha. And one of the things I want them to do as they get older is to engage in issues they care about - even ones I may not agree with them on. I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens. And I wanted Sandra to know that I thought her parents should be proud of her.
Kickass Kids of the Day: When two men stole $200 from a group of cookie-selling Girl Scouts in Texas, a crime-fighting duo of senior troopers refused to let them leave without learning that “Courageous and Strong” are more than just words to recite.
After one of two thieves lifted the cash box from the troop’s cookie table, which was situated outside a Walmart in Bellaire, 9-year Girl Scout senior Rachel Johnson and her friend Iravia Cotton sprung into action, and pounced on the getaway car.
“I started hitting the boy that was in the passenger seat, so I think he learned his lesson a little bit,” said Cotton. Meanwhile, Johnson hung onto the car as it continued to speed away. She was eventually forced to let go, and sustained minor injuries.
“Who steals from a Girl Scout? I mean, seriously, it’s like the worst thing ever,” Johnson said. “I hope your face hurts from when Iravia punched you — jerks!”
The perps are sadly still at large.

Those kids are going to make a million dollars in cookie money now.
Fuck it, I totally do. I’m sick of everyone who voted for him in ‘08 complaining about how “disappointed” they are. Guess what? He’s a real human, not a magician or a unicorn or a marketing campaign about dreams. Did he live up to everything he said on the campaign trail? No. Does any politician? No. Does that make voting for a republican (and seriously, take a LOOK at the republicans) or not voting better? No.
