The two of you have been playing Tsukishima Kei and Yamaguchi Tadashi for three years now, but what were your impressions of each other when you first met?

Kairi: Actually, the very first time we met, I didn’t have a very good impression of him at all (laughs).  At the auditions, I thought, wow there’s a crazy noisy* guy here. That turned out to be Ryoutarou. Then at our introductory meeting, when it had been a while since we’d last met, I thought, “Uwahh, this guy’s Tsukishima!”  And I was a little worried actually as to whether or not he could play him and play him well (laughs).  

Ryoutarou: Well, at the place where we had auditions, I saw someone I knew so I was just talking to him was all!  Since my acquaintance was auditioning for Yamaguchi too, I had said to him, “It’d be nice if we could both be cast.”  But when I saw Kairi’s acting, I had a hunch like, “It’ll be this guy for sure.”  He was the only one that had this totally different atmosphere to him, because he was bright while being ordinary.

I wrote a fic for SportsFest! Tsukishima/Kageyama, 1800 words, M - futurefic, post-breakup exhibitionism in a restaurant with a happy ending (both kinds). Please read the notes before reading!

It was Kageyama who ended things, back at the end of third year. Tsukishima got into Tohoku, and Kageyama had been recruited and was moving to Tokyo with Hinata. It wasn’t like their thing was a real thing anyway; just a lot of hookups in places where they almost got caught by their teammates or coaches. Thinking about dark corners or empty closets where Tsukishima used his hands or mouth on him as footsteps approached was enough to get his heart pounding like he was on the court. It was possible Kageyama had a public thing. It was possible Tsukishima liked exploiting that, or maybe he had a public thing, too. Whatever it was, it was over now, and Tsukishima looked pretty fucking relaxed about it.

Kageyama scowled down into his lap.

It’s often been remarked that Spider-Man’s schtick wouldn’t work nearly so well if he didn’t live in a town with so many tall buildings, but consider: how well would Batman’s “I am the night” routine work if he was operating out of a normal city where people actually live, rather than a perpetually twilit urban hellscape that looks like the Art Deco movement had a one-night stand with Soviet Brutalism in a wrought-iron-and-gargoyle factory?
