Chapter Coda: When in doubt, go to the library

Tsukishima frowns.
“So what you’re saying,” Kuroo grins, “is that you need my help? Like a favor?”
Tsukishima’s frown deepens. Kuroo’s grin grows.
It wasn’t like this had been his first choice or anything. He’d gone to Professor Ukai who had shifted him to Professor Takeda who had suggested a ‘student tutor.’
“If you want to learn mind blocking, you have to practice with the pros,” Ukai had said.
“He’s a blocking expert. Absolutely top in the school,” Takeda had assured him.
Now, this.
“I’ll be going. Sorry to disturb you,” Tsukishima says, making a break for it.
“Whoa whoa whoa.” Kuroo smoothly catches Tsukishima, arm looped firmly around his shoulders. “Come on, Glasses. What’s a little blocking practice between friends?”
Tsukishima grits his teeth at the word friends but he doesn’t take the bait.
“Couple of rules, though.” Kuroo sits in the high backed chair in the corner of the Slytherin common room. Tsukishima continues to stand uneasily. “Rule number one,” Kuroo holds up a finger, “Total Honesty. Anything I ask. First, tell me exactly why you want to learn.”
“He needs to learn how to shield, if something happens.” Tsukishima says evasively.
“He?”
“You know.”
“Hm, maybe.” Kuroo shrugs. “But I still want to hear you say it. Rule number one! Be honest.”
Tsukishima glares, fighting off a blush. “Yamaguchi is a legilimens.”
“So?”
“So, I. He. He should learn how to… shield.” Tsukishima says weakly.
“Is that it? Nothing in it for you? How magnanimous!” Kuroo is insufferably smug.
“I also don’t want him to know… some things about me.” Tsukishima admits, grimacing.
“Almost there,” Kuroo waves a hand at him encouragingly. He’s clearly enjoying himself. Tsukishima gives him a dirty look.
“Is that all I get? Ah, well, good enough I guess. A little advice, though- you’re not exactly being subtle.”
Tsukishima gives up, face going scarlet.
“Rule number two!” Kuroo counts off on his hand. “No one knows I helped you- no one besides Takeda and Nekoma, anyway. And you definitely, definitely don’t get to tell Freckles.”
Tsukishima blinks.
“Rule number three!” Kuroo drops his hands. “Occlumency is hard. You need to learn it and you need to learn it fast, so for now your time is mine. Even if it’s stupid or embarrassing, you do what I say. Your shields need to be tested in all kinds of conditions at all hours of the day. Even if it’s only a few minutes here and there, you’re training when you’re not in class.”
Tsukishima nods.
“Alright, then I agree. Meet me tomorrow right after breakfast and we’ll start. Slytherin has the pitch first, so dress out and bring your broom. We’ll start after team practice ends.”
“That’s it? You’re going to help me?” Tsukishima asks, stunned.
“I’m just that kind,” Kuroo preens. “Besides.” Kuroo’s expression darkens. “An untrained natural legilimens around here is more dangerous than you know. There’s a lot of nasty secrets at Hogwarts. It’s good that you want to help him. No one else is.”
“Do you not like him?” Tsukishima asks bluntly.
“It’s not me that dislikes him,” Kuroo says vaguely. “Call me Professor, okay?”
“I am absolutely 100% not doing that,” Tsukishima replies.

“My whole life I’ve been waiting to play a part like this, quite honestly. To work with these directors and to work with Ava, I could cry talking about her. This material and this environment, it’s really like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
