Today’s Haikyuu family visitors included Ken-chan and Hiroki!
- Everyone was extremely happy to see them!
- Kenta commented: “It’s good that our idea of ‘everyone’ includes more and more people.”
- Naoki admitted that he was nervous for all sorts of reasons to meet Hiroki. But Hiroki told him that he was good, and that made him very happy. He was also very happy to be able to meet Ken-chan, and happy overall to be together with everyone on Karasuno!

Kageyama Tatsuya as Kageyama Tobio
Q. Please tell us
something about Kageyama Tobio that you like or that appeals to you.
What I love about Kageyama is that although volleyball is his entire life, it’s
to the level where you worry about how he might have turned out if he had never
found volleyball (since he’s so bad at everything else). But also, he’s the type of person that thinks,
“I want to do it well,” or “I want to give everything I have to do doing what I
like.” And he’s very greedy about it,
and that’s something I can respect, and I think it’s amazing of him. Plus we have the same name, and I feel like that
was destiny!
Q. If you could
actually join the Karasuno volleyball team, who do you think you’d get along
with?
The third-years. If I were in their
year, I could probably really feel that sense of, “let’s do our best together,” and if they
were my senpai, I’d definitely feel
like I could rely on them. The
second-years chatter and mess around a lot, so if I was in their year, I’d get
worked up when they do, and if they were my senpai,
I’d feel like they’d do a lot to get us excited and get us pumped. But I’m not sure how I’d do with the other
first-years. I don’t know that I’d get
along well with Kageyama or Tsukishima… That might take some time. (laughs)
Q.
What’s something that you always do before an Engeki Haikyuu performance?
When I’m going to appear on stage, I always go to the stage wings about 15 minutes before the curtain rises to just concentrate and focus my mind. In the case of Engeki Haikyuu, I’ll go and hug everyone after that. And say, “Break a leg!” Doing that really puts me at ease. After that, we gather around in a group circle, first with everyone, then with individual teams. And that also gets us really worked up, and we always say, let’s do our best today!

Kosaka Ryoutarou as Tsukishima Kei
Q. Please tell us something about Tsukishima Kei
that you like or that appeals to you.
Even though he doesn’t have the same enthusiasm as the other Karasuno team
members, Tsukishima still kept playing volleyball for all that time, and I
think that’s really adorable. And no
matter what he says, he still does try hard, doesn’t he? But he still tries to look cool and
detached. I think that’s part of his charm,
and I like that about him. Oh and, I
like that he does still hate to lose. I
think that’s really cool.
Q. If you could actually join the Karasuno
volleyball team, who do you think you’d get along with?
Sugawara. When I read the manga,
Sugawara was the first one I liked straightaway since I thought he was really
nice. I do like people who are nice and
kind. Eventually, I think I’d be able to
get along with everyone, but first would be Sugawara, then I’d get used to
Nishinoya and Tanaka, I think?
(laughs) No, I mean, I like
Nishinoya and Tanaka but their constant intensity would be really exhausting…
Don’t they ever want to just chat normally?
That too is probably why I think Sugawara’s good, since he’s actually
normal.
Q. What’s something
that you always do before an Engeki Haikyuu performance?
I mess around. That’s probably become my
routine-or-other. I have to smile and
laugh before a show. I don’t know why I
feel like that though. Maybe because
Tsukishima doesn’t really smile or laugh at all? Or maybe I like making other people laugh. I also play a lot of Kendama. That’s how I increase my focus… is what I’d
like to say, but I’m really just having fun with it. (laughs)
Usually before a show, I also have Coach Ukai, Hayashi Tsuyoshi-san pound
my back.

Miura Kairi as Yamaguchi Tadashi
Q. Please tell us something about Yamaguchi
Tadashi that you like or that appeals to you.
Yamaguchi is unremarkable, he doesn’t have natural talent like Hinata or
Kageyama, and he doesn’t have a knack for picking things up easily, so he
struggles and toils, and I love that about him.
It means he hates to lose.
Because he wanted to be in matches too, he searched for something he
could do, and found his jump floater serve.
He might seem weak, but his core self is surprisingly manly. I think that disconnect is also charming!
Q. If you could actually join the Karasuno
volleyball team, who do you think you’d get along with?
Suga-san and Tanaka. Suga-san does
have his mischievous side, and he’s probably the easiest to talk to. I like to laugh, and Ryoutarou’s the same, so
I like people who say crazy things. That’s
why I think Tanaka would be fun to hang out with. Noya-san is fun too but, he might be hard to
be friends with because he’s too macho maybe. (laughs) But as a character, I love him!
Q. What’s something
that you always do before an Engeki Haikyuu performance?
I do this for other shows too, but just before the curtain goes up, I rotate my
ankles and my neck, take deep breaths, and since my extremities are always
colder, I put my hands around my neck to help cool down. I do about three
sets of that sequence, and at the end I beat my chest once then go. If I don’t do this routine, then I get
flustered and nervous inside, so it’s a routine I always have to do. Surprisingly, I do get pretty nervous
sometimes!
