Hey everyone! I wanted to share a preview of my piece for the @hqrarepairzine! This was such a fun freakin’ zine to work on! I got to write one of my favorite pairings ever: KageTsukiHina :D 

Kei can’t stand either of them, or the way they make him feel. Yamaguchi was right; he really is a masochist.

One of the things they like to do that drives him absolutely crazy (in a bad way, absolutely not stomach-butterflies, heart-fluttery kind of crazy, at all, that has never happened) is compete for his affections.

They fight to open doors for him, and over who gets to make him lunch. They compliment him a lot, which he hates. Hinata’s flattery tends to sound like he asked Bokuto-senpai and Kuroo-senpai for things to say, so it is always awful; and Kageyama still can’t make it through most compliments without stuttering, usually over something like trying to tell Kei that his water bottle is cool (it’s the same fucking bottle they all use for practice). The worst part is that Kei’s ears burn red every time, probably because they are both so tragically dumb.

He knows all the over the top romantic gestures are because the two of them don’t know the meaning of subtle; somehow, it’s ceased to be the most annoying thing in the world to him, and has instead just become a part of his daily life. But it is still painful to watch, and it all comes to a head the day they’re meant to be voting on the new volleyball team captain for third year.

They were new in town when Shouyou was handed the task to set up the wifi.

The first few days in their new house were spent on cleaning, unpacking and tidying, and it went on until their wireless router had been discovered broken in the midst of unpacking. A new one had to be bought immediately on spot, his father decided, and Shouyou’s opportunity to explore arose when his father appointed him to be in charge.

And without wasting a breath, Shouyou took this as the chance to map through the town.

His legs are pedaling the gears of his bike through the streets with much fervor, the wind slaps his skin, through his hair, in his ears, and he’s desperate, eager to unfold the pieces of the place where it’s already breathing to him a sense of contentment within one take of its air.

The town is small, near the countryside and from what he’s gathered through the car trip on their way to their new neighborhood, it’s bursting with ocean of colors and floral scents which had all been a delightful welcome. There are more cherry trees than he’s ever counted, more spring flowers, and he feels the ache to tread through the tall sunflower fields when he sees them sitting by the bank of warm lakes.

Here, Shouyou could already tell there’s a promise to a fulfilling life for all the things it possess which Tokyo lacks.
