—Do you act trying to capture the essence of Yamada Jiro’s character?

Although it’s easy to tell that Jiro changes his style of speech depending on if he’s talking to Ichiro, Saburo, or others, respectively. I make sure to act in a way so that the changes in his emotions are also clearly shown. The impression he gives hasn’t really changed since when I auditioned, maybe. Recently, on top of that, I carefully added some edges to him; something like, even though there are a lot of times he’s immature, he has the vigor of being young and having lots of potential for improvements, and with that also comes certain unreliabilities in him. For the freestyle battles on Niconama live streams, I guess I’m gradually becoming better at getting into Jiro’s character.


—What kind of team does Buster Bros!!! feel to you?

More than anything they’re bound by brotherhood and are better at teamwork than any other team. I’ve met Subaru-san and Amasaki-kun from before Hypmic; it’s easy to work with them as we click in many ways. And even other people have said that our voices and rap balance well with each other. In terms of the characters, Jiro does not only respect Ichiro—he worships him as if he were a god. He thinks that Ichiro is the perfect superman who’s good at everything, including rap. Although Saburo is a middle schooler, instead of worshipping Ichiro, he holds Ichiro in very high regards. He also has an important, brotherly rivalry with Jiro. He’s the type of guy that I’d like to befriend, but seems a bit hard to approach. I think Saburo is critical to Jiro’s growth as a character.

My girl Jessica coming in with some hot facts and searing truths regarding the war on plastic and the ableist rhetoric surrounding it and how a lot of the focus on straws is largely performative activism. (Video contains closed captions for those who need them.)

(As an aside, I love Jessica, I’ve been watching her videos for a while. She’s very vocal about her disabilities and illnesses, as well as LGBT issues. Watching her and her wife Claudia on camera, have become a real highlight of my week over the last two years. (Their wedding video is here.) So if you’d like to expand your watching habits on youtube, Jessica is awesome. And her fashion and make up tutorials are fun too.)

After my “turns out drinking with a straw is way easier and safer for me!” post yesterday, I’ve had a lot of people in my inbox urging me to invest in reusable straws for the sake of the environment. And while I understand you believe you are being helpful, I’m going to draw your attention back to this video, and urge you to watch it the whole way through.

I may still attempt to invest in some reusable straws and see if there are any I can safely use. My allergies are vast and my immune system compromised, so not all reusable straws are an option for me. Jessica very clearly explains why, and I’m so glad she did because I frankly don’t have the energy to do so.

Please watch it and understand why plastic straws are not the devil, and why you urging their discontinued use is a problem for many disabled people. Thank you, I appreciate your energy and time.
