Okayyy, so after reading your wholeass fun theory post, two things !! 1.) Would you mind expounding more on the "flirtation is a disguise" Ramuda thing? 2.) Speaking of TWEWY!! Have you read "get busy living (or get busy dying)." By bellmare on ao3??? *sobbing* it was spectacular and i am at the edge of my seat wating for an update that may or may not be coming ;-;

I would NEVER mind expounding more on my bullshit.

First, a disclaimer: The number one reason this is one of my top headcanons is because I habitually headcanon favorite characters as asexual to be self-indulgent. But a lot of people really like Ramuda with a more sexual personality, so that’s cool too.

1. Almost every aspect of Ramuda’s outward personality is fake.

Ramuda pretends to be light-hearted and friendly when his real personality is much angrier and more sullen.

image

He pretends to be an airhead, but he’s actually quite calculating.

image

He pretends to speak with a high-pitched voice and childish diction, but his real voice is much lower and full of more adult language.

image

He pretends to just have a sweet tooth, but that’s actually a cover to disguise the fact that he needs lollipops to live.

image

I don’t have any images for this, but Ramuda also uses a different first-person pronoun for his inner self (ore) vs his outer self (boku). Everything else about the “boku” Ramuda is fake, so what makes his flirtation any different?

2. His popular boy disguise gives him plausible deniability to be the perfect spy.

As mentioned above, Ramuda’s sweet tooth is a cover for a very real aspect about him. Every other aspect of his outer personality is a disguise too! The airhead act is designed to make people underestimate him, while the excessively friendly act allows him to plausibly break social norms and quick become closer to people as Chuuouku’s plans dictate.

Now, the great thing about being flirtatious is that it allows him to talk to lots of women, even Chuuouku women. That might be rather suspicious in a world that’s this heavily segregated, but if all he appears to be doing is sweet-talking them, then he can get away with it easily. Now only if we had any proof of him doing that…

3. Oh wait a minute….

Ramuda: … Oopsie. Sorry, I gotta step out to take a call from a lady.

Well now. Look at that.

And no, I haven’t read that fic, but I’ll try to check it out over the next few days! Thanks for the recommendation.

the amount of asks I’m getting on my bi blog that are along the lines of

“I am [*paraphrases definition of bisexuality*] - is it okay to call myself bisexual?”

kinda worries me tbh. yes, some are really just confused about definitions and meanings and ask for clarification but then there’s those who send this underlying idea that you need the permission from a higher authority before you can claim a label.

a) that authority doesn’t exist
b) even if it did I sure as hell wouldn’t want it to be me

I’m just really confused if this is just a cultural thing? A generational thing? A tumblr thing? Because as much as I have struggled at times with internalised biphobia I have not once thought “gotta ask a certified bisexual authority if they’ll give me their blessing”.

I wonder if it’s partly generational and partly a tumblr thing? Like, if someone’s steeped in all the rhetoric about gatekeeping identities (like goldstar lesbian rhetoric and “only lesbians can use the word dyke” and whatnot), I could see how some folks might be worried about whether they’re “allowed” to use an identity.

That’s also just speculation, though, because I’ve also never thought I needed anyone’s permission to identify myself as any identity.

yes, that was my line of thinking exactly, especially about it being a tumblr thing.

also because the people I have met offline through my bi activism never really came with this kind of “am I allowed?” attitude. They may have had questions about coming out, about definitions (classic “what’s the difference between bi and pan?” questions, you know?), about other bi people’s experiences, about being bi and monogamous versus bi and polyamorous…. those kinds of things. And even with people who didn’t already identify as bisexual (or were strongly considering it) it was always more a vibe of “huh? so if that’s what bisexuality means then I guess that could be me?! interesting.” instead of “if I am ~this~ then am I allowed to do ~that~?”

but on my bi blog these kinds of “permission-asks” are super frequent. I often don’t know the age and gender of the people who send in asks (bc most are anon and don’t specify those details) but often through context it’s reasonable to assume they are mostly teenage girls. so my thoughts also go directly to how much gatekeeping juice those girls might’ve inadvertently and unknowingly been subjected to because tumblr is their only source of queer education.
