Reki is a creative, bright and energetic boy. He’s passionate and kind, and with every episode that passes I like him more and more! When I was going to create the illustration, the director told me, “Rather than being cool, Reki has a unique and cute sense of style.” So using that as a base, I tried to create a design that when you glanced at it you would say, “What is this? But it’s kind of cute.” Also, I wanted to show Reki’s energetic personality through the colorful, pop image. Please look forward to seeing how the hot battles between these unique skaters unfold from now on! I’ll be looking forward to it too!

When I first saw the character design sheet, I pictured him as always being calm and collected, but in the series there are many scenes where he’s quite soft, so I can’t help but feel there’s a gap between his looks and personality. He may be spacey but when he’s serious he’s really cool. The director told me to use a “Yeti” as the basis for his. So, I combined Reki’s strange sense of cuteness along Langa to make a sleepy looking yeti, and since I wanted to make use of Langa’s spacey look in the threatening pose, it ended up pretty lethargic looking.
I had a hard time deciding which character was my favorite, but it’s Langa. If I were asked to make another illustration based on him again, I’d like to make a Yeti pin or some other fashion accessory. It seems like it would be fun!

While being blessed with a lot of natural talent, MIYA still doesn’t do anything lightly, so he gives the impression of a cheeky but not detestable young boy! He’s cute! His theme is “games”, so I created several designs that were inspired by puzzle games and controllers. Also, since MIYA’s image is also that of a cat, I made the design to look like a cat. Actually, MIYA was the most difficult to create. There are many types of games, so I wondered if I should base it on a shooting game or maybe a space invader game… Out of all of the options, the one that we used was the puzzle game based one.
