Hey Slug, if it's not too disruptive or presumptuous, I just wanted to add to your answer to the "why does Ramuda hate Jakurai" anon as a fellow Ramuda stan.

I believe that Jakurai's "hypocrisy" is also a trait that fuels Ramuda's hatred towards Jakurai. I put it in quotes because arguably, Jakurai is not as hypocritical as Ramuda perceives him to be (again, up for debate).

Jakurai is outwardly vocal about his belief that various moralities and beliefs can coexist with one another peacefully (not all, but many), and he obviously has a very humanistic attitude as a medical professional, and seems to hold himself ethically accountable for being an assassin in the past.

Despite what many would consider to be "angelic" beliefs and philosophies, he still accuses Ramuda of being inhuman, implying that he is inferior to other people and not worth saving.

I definitely agree with your points about Ramuda's feelings of hurt and betrayal. I believe from that moment on, Ramuda believes that Jakurai is always looking down on him. By that, I mean condescending to Ramuda from a place of moral superioriority.

While I'm sure Ramuda also believes himself to be a bad person, and to be worth less to others just by default, I think it also angers him (perhaps fueled by envy?) that Jakurai can seemingly tolerate Samatoki and Ichiro's propensity for violence as well as his own assassin past, but can't offer the same sympathy and understanding to Ramuda.

Interesting theory. Thank you for sharing.

I think we're definitely getting to the point with Dracula daily where some (most) people need to be reminded it is a historical novel, and is going to have prejudices in it. that doesn't meant dont read it, its important to read these classic stories that have been so warped by time and pop culture! it just means you should be keeping an eye out for the biases that are present, be critical of what you're reading, make note of what stereotypes the text is applying to minority groups and how that might affect them
